The development goal was to create an intercom system for mutual communication between the crews of the above-mentioned vehicles.
The system should be designed for a crew of at least four people with the option of up to 12 people. Hearing and speaking should be possible using a headphone-microphone combination (headset). Headsets should be equipped with a foldable microphone boom and be disinfectable.
For plug-in operation of the headsets, small stations with volume control and switches for momentary and continuous speech should be used. No additional controls were requested in order to prevent operating errors. The stations should be connected by cables. All persons should be able to hear and speak at the same time.
No audible latency between transmission and direct communication was desired.
It should be possible to connect the wired intercom system to a MRT (Mobile Radio Terminal) radio system and the signal of the radio system must be volume-controlled.
The system should be optimised for installation and operation in motor vehicles. It should operate reliably between 10 and 15V on-board voltage.
